Our Print Materials

Every print at Southern Sky Gallery is produced on demand using premium substrates chosen to honor the depth, detail, and luminosity of astrophotography. Below you'll find a guide to each material - what it looks like, how it feels, and which spaces it suits best.

Premium Canvas

Our canvas prints are produced on museum-quality, acid-free fine art canvas with a satin finish. The image is stretched over a solid timber frame (gallery wrap), giving the print a sculptural, three-dimensional presence on the wall. No frame required - the edges are printed as a natural continuation of the image.

  • Finish: Satin / matte
  • Frame: Gallery-wrapped timber stretcher bars
  • Best for: Living rooms, bedrooms, warm or natural-light spaces
  • Care: Dust lightly with a dry cloth; avoid direct moisture

Aluminium (Metal Print)

Aluminium prints are produced by infusing dyes directly into a specially coated aluminium sheet. The result is a vivid, high-contrast image with a luminous quality that seems to glow from within - perfect for showcasing the star fields and nebulae in astrophotography. Prints arrive ready to hang with a floating mount that creates a subtle shadow gap from the wall.

  • Finish: Gloss or semi-gloss
  • Mount: Floating aluminium standoff
  • Best for: Modern interiors, offices, feature walls, high-humidity spaces (kitchens, bathrooms)
  • Care: Wipe with a damp cloth; scratch-resistant surface

Acrylic (Acrylic Face Mount)

Acrylic prints are produced by face-mounting a high-resolution print behind a sheet of premium clear acrylic. The acrylic acts as a lens, intensifying colours and creating extraordinary depth - the aurora greens and deep-space blues appear almost three-dimensional. A brushed aluminium standoff mount completes the gallery-ready presentation.

  • Best for: Contemporary spaces, statement pieces, collectors seeking maximum visual impact
  • Care: Clean with a soft microfibre cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners
